Hayes Trail Status Update – Red & Debris Cleared

The Hayes mountain bike trails are red. They have started unthawing this morning and it's messy. Unfortunately, tomorrow the trails will be still be very muddy and un-rideable, so please don't make it worse by being a hero. Violators will be put to work.   With that said, all of the debris (i.e. trees) have been cleared from the trails. I have also added some make-shift bridges to cover the recent creek-like erosion. We are way ahead of where we were at last year at this time, so that means that we can enjoy the trails more quickly as long everyone obeys the rules of engagement. Don't ride the trails when we ask you not to!!  ...

Product Review: GoPro HERO4 Session – 4 out of 5

I recently purchased a GoPro HERO4 Session to add some substance to my blog posts. I ended up purchasing the camera ($200) along with, the front helmet adapter ($15) and a 64 GB Micro SD Card ($25) at the Richmond Best Buy. I did see that you can get the camera with a 32 GB SD for $200 on Amazon. Amazon, as always, had the best price that I found. The purchase experience at Best Buy was good. The sales guy knew nothing about the GoPro cameras. With that said, they had everything that I wanted needed and I knew what I wanted so it didn't really matter.  The SD card was by far the best purchase. Don't forget that Best Buy does price matching, so be prepared with a link to the store that you want them to match.   I give the camera a 4 stars out of 5. It's awesome! The break on it's pros and cons below: Pros: It's amazingly small and...

Richmond local trails are some of the best Indiana trails

Originally posted by Jessika Lakes, of the Hayes Arboretum, "The Hayes Arb Mountain Bike Trails placed #6 in the Top 10 Indiana Best Trails! Many thanks to our trail building volunteers and all those who voted for us. It is truly a team effort among volunteers who build the trails and the greater number of mtn bike riders who enjoy the trails. Hats off also to our partner Cardinal Greenway Trail who placed #4 in the Top 10." Winter Riding

It's been a couple of years since we've able to ride the Hayes Arboretum Mountain Bike Trails, so this write up is just to get everyone up to speed on how to ride the trails and to prepare yourself. The Red Trail was built and several sections added to the other trails last year, so they are not completely packed down. This combined with the warmer-than-normal weather has made it difficult to have a lot of riding time this winter. Basically, if it's above freezing don't ride the trails, as they will be too muddy to ride without damaging them. Do the volunteers a favor and follow this rule. You can see the status of the trails on the home page of this website any time. Riding gear is, of course, very important. Wear thermal underwear, Neoprene gloves and shoe covers; if you have some (they're about $15). Keep hydrated! Just because it's cold doesn't mean that your not sweating and losing water....
